Bloomsburg Tops UDC in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team wrapped up the Patriot-Inn Huskies Tip-Off Classic with a 55-45 win over District of Columbia (UDC) on Saturday afternoon. Bianca Lee (Temple Hills, MD/ Archbishop Carroll) registered her second consecutive double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 15 rebounds to lead the Huskies.

Bloomsburg jumped out to an early 11-6 lead when Laura Lyons (Hatfield/ Pennridge) drained a three-pointer with 13:18 remaining in the first half. However UDC rallied to take a 17-15 lead when Jennifer Jones connected on a lay-up with 8:19 remaining in the half. After Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/ Schyulkill Haven ) completed a three point play, to make it 18-17, the Lady Firebirds added another basket to make the 19-18 with 6:57 remaining. That would be the last lead for UDC in the game. Bloomsburg would retake the lead for good and led 28-25 at halftime. In the second half, the Huskies slowly pulled away thanks to a defense that held UDC to just 26.1% shooting from the field.

Kegerreis finished with 15 points and eight rebounds and Lyons finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Kelly Joyce (Ashland/ Cardinal Brennan) added six points and nine rebounds.

Lee and Kegerreis were named to the all-tournament team, along with UDC's Jennifer Jones, and Lock Haven's Elizabeth Gabrielle and Shameka Lee. Caldwell's MacKenzie Lynch was named MVP of the Patriot Inn-Huskies Tip-Off Classic.

Bloomsburg, 2-1, will host Central State on November 28 at 6 p.m.
